EXPERIENCE
Joe has worked as a field archaeologist for over 15 years, during which time he has conducted more than 300 archaeological site surveys and investigations for mining companies and government authorities throughout Western Australia. This work has included excavations of Aboriginal sites and many programs of site salvage. These salvage operations often involve supervising teams of between 2 and 8 archaeologists and assistants. Aboriginal consultation is a regular part of the work and in some cases Aboriginal spokespersons or assistants are involved in fieldwork and site salvage.
The work has been conducted in all parts of Western Australia for major mining and resource companies, smaller mining and exploration companies, government authorities and departments, as well as land developers and environmental consultants.
Joe has also exhumed historic burials, worked on historic excavations at the Roundhouse at Fremantle and at megaliths and Iron Age sites in Portugal, excavated underwater in Thailand and France, as well as restored Byzantine ceramics in Turkey.
